Majorca: Not Just Sangria + Sunburn

Laura’s just returned from a sun-drenched escape to Majorca – and spoiler: it’s got a lot more going for it than your mate’s gap year stories would suggest.

Yes, there were bougainvillea-covered laneways. Yes, there were sunset cocktails by the sea. But there was also serious brand potential. So here’s the full wrap – part travel diary, part Mavel-style debrief.

Palma: Spain’s Best “Big Small City”

Palma is one of those cities that does it all – historic charm, modern cool, beach access, and enough tapas spots to lose track of your afternoon. Laura found it to be the perfect landing pad; compact enough to explore by foot, but full of local energy and hidden gems.

Think: boutique shopping, sunset rooftop drinks, and museums tucked behind 14th-century walls. Plus, the city’s close proximity to the airport makes it a dream for short stays, content shoots or last-leg incentive moments.

Island Vibes, Upgraded

Head beyond Palma and things start to get very cinematic, very fast.

Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller… they’re postcard-perfect towns that feel like they’ve been curated for a brand campaign. Winding stone streets. Olive groves. Locals selling figs off the back of their bicycles. Laura swears one village even smelt like citrus and smugness (in a good way).

It’s giving ‘Amalfi meets Puglia’, but with better parking and a more laid-back crowd. Ideal for wellness retreats, small-group incentives or content that’s equal parts bougie and barefoot.

Long Lunches Are Practically Mandatory

You haven’t really experienced Majorca until you’ve spent three hours at lunch, and then somehow ended up still there at dinner.

Whether it’s grilled seafood at a beach shack, a winery lunch in the hills, or fresh bread dipped in olive oil that actually tastes different depending on the region, Majorca is made for indulgent food moments.

It’s also a great destination to lean into experiential dining: boat picnics, farm-to-table feasts, or chefs in secluded villas.

On Boats and Balearic Daydreams

Laura’s take? If you don’t get on the water in Majorca, you’ve missed half the magic.

Luckily, boat charters here are as common as brunch spots in Bondi. From secret swimming coves to seafood-on-deck lunches, the Med delivers. And for branded experiences, it’s the ultimate “we’re out of office” moment.

The Accommodation Game Is Strong

Whether you’re after a luxury fortress (Cap Rocat, anyone?), a hillside finca with room for 20, or a beach resort that actually feels boutique, Majorca doesn’t disappoint.

Laura investigated a few options, and confirms that the range here makes it ideal for multi-tiered incentive trips or group buyouts.

A Few Things to Know

  • Tourist crowds are real. Especially in July/August. For something more curated, shoulder season is your best friend.
  • You’ll want a car. The best bits (Deià, Valldemossa, Sóller) are made for scenic road trips. Build it into your program.
  • Not every Aussie knows about it. Yet. But if they like Amalfi, Santorini or the Côte d’Azur, they’ll love Majorca. We just need to sell the story right.

So, Why Majorca?

Because it’s not trying too hard, and that’s the charm.

It’s versatile, vibey, and full of those unexpected little moments that make for big brand impact. Whether you’re curating a content campaign, incentive retreat, or luxury prize trip, Majorca lets you flex the itinerary in all the right ways.

Sunshine. Salty air. A little sangria. And all the Mavel magic your brand could ask for.
